DO I NEED TO PURCHASE TICKETS OR CAN WE BUY ONSITE?

We highly recommend pre-purchasing tickets online at www.metrorichmondzoo.com because capacity is limited. Arrive 15 to 20 minutes before your scheduled time block.  

CAN MY ZOO MEMBERSHIP BE USED FOR A DRIVE-THRU TOUR?

No. Memberships are for the walk-in zoo only. Drive-Thru Tour is a new and different experience. However, each car with an active member present, receives a $10 promotional voucher. Credit can be used for admission, food, gift shop, or treetop zoofari purchases. Members must present their active membership card when arriving at the Zoo to receive a $10 voucher. (1 Voucher per car)

Note: Annual Zoo memberships are paused during the time the walking zoo is closed. They are not valid for Drive-Thru admission. Active annual memberships will be extended for the amount of time the walk-in Zoo is closed due to COVID-19. You will still receive 1 full years’ access to walk around the Metro Richmond Zoo.

HOW DOES THE AUDIO WORK?

When you arrive at the zoo, instructions on how to access the audio will be placed on the outside of your windshield facing you so you can read it. You will go to a direct link with your smartphone. There are two options: 1. Video and audio or 2. Audio only. You must have data to stream either option. The audio only option uses less data, but the video and audio option gives the full experience. Bring a charged smartphone and connect it to your car’s sound system via Bluetooth or AUX cord! If your car isn’t compatible with Bluetooth or you don’t have an AUX cord, simply listen to the tour from your smartphone speaker. Note: The phone that is playing the audio cannot be used to take pictures.

Disclaimer: Some guests have reported that T-Mobile’s service is not the best around the zoo. Solution: We recommend choosing the audio only option if your service is not great.

DO YOU ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS?

Yes, we accept American Express, VISA, MasterCard, and Discover credit cards.

DO YOU ACCEPT CASH PAYMENTS?

Yes, we will accept cash for Drive-Thru Tour snacks or gifts.

DO YOU DRIVE-THRU IN YOUR OWN CAR? CAN WE RENT A SHUTTLE OR GOLF -CART?

Guests must travel through the Metro Richmond Zoo in the comfort of their own vehicle. We do not have rental cars or shuttles.

HOW LONG DOES THE DRIVE-THRU TOUR TAKE?

The experience will last approximately 1 hour.

DO I NEED TO PRINT MY ORDER CONFIRMATION TICKET?

No. It is not necessary. However, you need to show the order confirmation number on your cell phone.

SINCE I AM IN MY VEHICLE, WILL I BE ALLOWED TO SMOKE?

Smoking of any kind is not allowed on zoo grounds. We reserve the right to escort guests off of zoo grounds if they are found to be disregarding our policies.

WILL I BE ALLOWED TO BRING ALCOHOL?

Alcohol is not allowed on zoo grounds. We reserve the right to escort guests off of zoo grounds if they are found to be disregarding our policies.

ARE PETS ALLOWED?

No, pets are not permitted on the Metro Richmond Zoo premises.

CAN I BRING MY OWN FOOD AND DRINK?

Yes. 🙂

IS THERE FOOD FOR PURCHASE IN THE ZOO?

Yes, the following can be purchased and delivered to your car. 

Hot Dog Meal – Hot dog, french fries, and 20 oz fountain drink $7.00
Chicken Nugget Meal – 6 Chicken nuggets, french fries, and 20 oz fountain drink $7.00
20 oz Fountain Drink – Choice of Coke, diet coke, sprite, fanta, pink lemonade, or root beer $3.00
Hot Dog – All beef $3.00
Chicken Nuggets – 6 piece $4.00
French Fries $3.00
Bottled Drinks $3.00
Mini Melts Ice Cream (Choice of 5 flavors) $5.00
Chocolate-covered Frozen Banana (Choice of 5 flavors) $5.00
Soft Serve Ice cream cone (served in a cup with a spoon) $3.00

IS THERE A PLACE WHERE WE CAN EAT A PICNIC LUNCH?

No. This is a “stay in your car experience.” As you will be driving through the zoo, if you have purchased any snacks and drinks from Metro Richmond Zoo, you may enjoy your snacks and drinks in your vehicle.

WILL I BE ABLE TO USE THE RESTROOM DURING THE TOUR?

Use the restroom before arriving at the Zoo. There is very limited space to pull off the route to use the restroom. Emergencies only. Access to a small restroom in the Treeop Zoofari building is available before and after the tour. 

CAN WE DRIVE THROUGH IN A CONVERTIBLE WITH THE TOP DOWN?

Yes, you may. For your safety while on zoo grounds, doors MUST BE IN PLACE and closed at all times. All persons must be seated in the vehicle if the top is down.

CAN WE RIDE IN THE BED OF A PICKUP TRUCK?

No. 

ONCE WE EXIT THE ZOO, CAN WE COME BACK THE SAME DAY?

Guests may not return after exiting the zoo on the same day without paying admission again. Tickets expire once guests exit the zoo. Tickets can be purchased at www.metrorichmondzoo.com

ARE THERE DISCOUNTS AVAILABLE?

No discounts available at this time. Zoo members are eligible to receive a promotional voucher. 

WILL WE BE ABLE TO FEED OR PET ANY OF THE ANIMALS?

No. Guests are not permitted to feed any of the animals during the Drive-Thru Tour. We reserve the right to escort guests off of zoo grounds if they are found to be disregarding our policies. Note: When the Metro Richmond Zoo reopens as a walk-in zoo, you will be able to feed and pet the giraffes and barnyard animals. 

WE CAME WHEN THE WEATHER WASN’T IDEAL AND DIDN’T SEE MANY ANIMALS, CAN WE GET OUR MONEY BACK?

No. If the weather is to the point we can not operate, we will reschedule your tickets for a different date.

CAN I GET A REFUND IF I DO NOT SHOW UP FOR MY SCHEDULED TOUR?

No. We would appreciate if you call in advance to notify us that you can’t make it. We will reschedule for another time. (804) 739-5666
